3 Rehabilitative Exercises for Trigger Finger
Here are three rehabilitative exercises you can do after getting hand surgery from a reputable Singapore clinic for severe trigger finger symptoms.
Palm Presses
- Pick up a small object and place it in your palm.
- Squeeze the item tightly for a few seconds.
- Release the object by opening your fingers widely.
- Repeat the process a few times.
- Perform exercise at least twice a day with different items.
Paper or Towel Grasps
- Put a piece of paper or small towel in your palm.
- Squeeze and scrunch the paper or towel into a ball and as small as possible.
- Apply pressure to your fist as you squeeze and hold the position for a few seconds.
- Slowly straighten your fingers as you release the paper or towel.
- Repeat at least ten times twice a day.
‘O’ Exercise
- Bring the affected finger to your thumb to form a circular shape.
- Hold the position for at least five seconds.
- Fully extend your finger, then bring it back to the “O” position.
- Repeat ten times at least twice a day.
- If there is more than one affected finger, do it alternately with each rep.
Make sure to check with a doctor or hand specialist from a reputable Singapore clinic before performing any of these exercises.
Don’t Forget to Massage!
Practising self-massaging your trigger finger as a treatment is recommended by many Singapore hand doctors. Self-massage is especially beneficial if done after finishing the exercises. It can aid in increasing circulation, flexibility and range of motion. To self-massage, you should:
- Rub the affected area in a gentle circular motion.
- Apply firm but gentle pressure on the finger.
- Massage the joint and entire area affected by the condition. You can also focus on specific points.
- Press and hold each point for about thirty seconds.
Make sure to visit a reputable hand clinic before performing any of these exercises. Advanced Hand, Wrist and Nerve Centre is a specialised hand clinic headed by a top surgeon. They offer treatments for various conditions like trigger finger, tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome to their Singapore patients.
