The Story of How I Conquered Sleep Apnea in Singapore

How much time do you spend resting and relaxing? There might be 24 hours in a day, but we should spend a good chunk of it sleeping. Getting a good night’s rest is essential for your performance during the day. But even if this might sound like common sense, you might be surprised to find out just how many people ignore problems because they don’t inconvenience them that much, or aren’t as noticeable. Take me, for example!

Unlike some other people who had sleep problems, I didn’t have any obvious ones. I wasn’t suffering from an inability to sleep. I sleep more or less the expected 7 hours a day, and I thought I was pretty okay, sleep-wise. But it all started when my wife started complaining about the noise that I made while I was sleeping.

I just brushed the problem off because I thought that snoring or making odd noises at night wasn’t that much of a big deal. After all, I’m surely not the only snorer out there? How bad can it possibly be? I had always thought that those who had to go to a sleep specialist in Singapore were those who had debilitating sleep disorders like insomnia and narcolepsy.

Boy, I was wrong. It was not until my condition got worse did I change my tune about how I should approach my sleeping issues. Did you know that there are many causes for even the tiniest of sleep issues? They can also be an indicator of something more serious. Mine was sleep apnea.

How the nightmare started

Snoring by itself isn’t really a serious issue, but couple that with other symptoms, and you might be dealing with something deadly. My wife has remarked a few times about my snoring, and I try to make it easier for her by laying on my side or sleeping facing away from her. But more recently, she had stated that the noises I was making weren't just snoring.

You see, sleep apnea in Singapore isn’t just a snoring problem, it’s a breathing one. Sleep apnea is when your breathing constantly stops and starts during sleep. This results in the sleeper not getting enough oxygen while they’re sleeping, which can cause a lot of other problems. Another nasty symptom of sleep apnea is wheezing and gasping during sleep, which my wife told me when I woke up.

The symptoms only began to creep and haunt me during my waking moments.  I started waking up with a dry mouth and an aching head, and even when I had gotten more than enough sleep, I felt tired, dizzy, and irritable at times.

Don’t wait till it’s too late to act. I tried to dismiss all these as coincidences until finally, it progressed to a point where it was downright unbearable for me. I started waking up in the middle of the night because of the gasping motions I made. I started feeling sleepy at work because I didn’t get enough energy. I also started staying up longer because sleep didn’t make me feel as well-rested as before. It was then that I knew I had to visit a sleep clinic in Singapore to help me deal with my problems.

How my problems were resolved

Sleep apnea could’ve been a very serious, if not life-threatening problem for me had I not taken steps to reach out to a doctor. That’s when I learned that Turns out that if I had let the condition progress any further, I could’ve been a victim to things like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart problems. Yikes!

Seeing the list of complications was a wake-up call for me. From then on, I was determined to get treatment for my condition so I didn’t have to suffer through sleep apnea in Singapore ever again. Fortunately, my doctor was able to assist me via therapies such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, or CPAP for short. Natural remedies like losing more weight and even just changing my sleeping position contributed immensely.

Overall, you need to have a lot of discipline to resolve your sleep apnea. Good luck, and don’t forget to go to a sleep clinic for treatments!
